Women Leadership Summit
We Celebrated 100th year of international Women’s day organized by Silicon India across major cities in India.I missed the key note as I was struck in the traffic and bit delayed for the summit.
Panel1 – Ascending Corporate Ladder
I am summarizing the extremely impressive speech from Kiranmai Dutt’s tips in corporate leadership.
Women – They can speak in volumes. They can create wonders. They are the people behind success of every one. Does woman choose leadership by design or by choice? Well. It depends. Nurturing, Caring and Maintaining good relationships and Empathy are some of the general characters of a woman. Firms need assertive leaders for organizations, otherwise it would be very difficult to manage a team. We have to concentrate on the right thing at right time. Let us do things that establish credibility. Let us be happy and perfect in what we are doing.

We are innocent. We are psychological. We are intuitive, fabulous, some facts to be substantiated. Women have Fetish, dedication & energy. How good we are. The society respects women. A mother, A Wife, as a daughter, As a Daughter-in-law, sister we have to do their responsibilities apart from work.
We are dependent on men and the fact is that men cannot live without women. It is only women need to do some house hold things in certain area. Do not expect men to understand and predict things. Communicate well whether it is at home or office or during work. Now the things are changed. World has many options and opportunities for women. How are we differentiating ourselves than others is important.

Corporate Leadership success Tips
You might be good at speaking but not well at stopping. You need to know how much to speak, when to speak, what to speak and when to stop. If you can balance that you will get success in your life.Be bold. Be courageous. We are not rational as men are. You have the other kind of nuances at work. Some people might mis-understand the friendliness and take things granted. Do you have the courage to tell them that we are friendly but do not take it granted? It is Not quantity of time. It is the quality of the time that is important for being successful leader.
I got a chance to speak to Akhila Jaikumar (Director for Bodhtree Consulting) during lunch. She is so optimist, turns everything into positive, dedicated, maintain relationships, satisfis in whatever she do& an inspiration to all of us.
I am summarizing her speech and tips on How to be a Corporate Leader?
Ascending steps are different than ascending corporate leadership. The Characteristics are common irrespective of age, gender, family back ground. Responsibility is very important for a leader. Where we are now is because of what we have done in the past. And it is also because of the choices we have made. It’s belief, confidence and display matters. Take total responsibility. It’s not about what other person has done. It’s about all you have done. Learn how to act?
Corporate Leadeship Tips
1.3cs – Communicate! Communicate! Communicate! What it takes to be successful communication.?
Inform if any mistakes from your team.Do not hide them. Communicate a day before regarding status and delays (if any).Customers may accept delays understand mistakes but cannot accept if you do not inform prior. Know what to communicate. Explain logically. Women are good at explaining situations than Men. Never work on weaknesses or things you don’t like. Instead work on strengths. Let’s not think it’s man’s world. If that is so we wouldn’t have been here.
2.Ask, Analyze, Assess
Do not guess or pre assume. If you do not understand ask again. There is nothing harm in asking. Analyze if you can do it. Give a realistic assessment. Learn to say no in a polite manner if you do not like or if it is out of scope.Do not take much pressure if sales people promises we can do anything and get projects. That is thier job. You have to give alternative ways and explain logically this is the technical situation and hence we are suggesting this approach.
3.Review Respond, Re-plan
Planning is an important acting. No client gives all requirements at once. We are following agile model. So requirements keep on changing for every project. Your initial plan needs to be replanned. Take time to plan and Replan. Respond to client Emails. Do not overreact. Review team statuses ,Team works and asses quality of the work.
3. Design, Deliver, Delight
Design as per plan and then Deliver in right time to reach the ultimate aim customer satisfaction. Customer Delight is organization delight and personal delight too.
Here is Sridevi‘s (VP for LGS Global) thoughts on corporate leadership
Do not just stick to your task and think that your job is done. Take the opportunities in the organization. Grab them and prove yourself. Be cautious here. Don’t give chance for polished corporate politics to play. Do not make the things and credit to someone. Be ready to face corporate politics. Beware of what’s happening. But don not enter into them. Many people don’t work & take your credit. Make sure that you don’t fall into trap. Speak, ask & Listen is important.
Networking is the key to one's success in a professional life. “Women slog in their careers but are not smart enough to promote themselves. They do not get the recognition and make simple mistakes in their jobs. It could be one of the reasons that success eludes them.”
To face challenges put things straight. Sometimes be cautious about People around you with in organization Prove that you are equally capable and competent. Take Open commitments from the team. Put things transparent. Reward or appreciate for the kind of work done by the team. You do not need to be technically much stronger for a good team manager. You should know how to handle things under the pressure. If you can easily manage at home with your relatives, friends and family, good relations you can be successful leader in the office. Project management comes from home management. Be self motivated, self realized, self organize, reactive to things. Do not be over reactive. Women are very good at negotiating things, grabbing best deals, hard working, dedicated and responsible. Women want to be recognized for their hard work at home or office. There is lot of Social, Economical, and Political power of the women. Do proper thing at proper right time. Learn from past. Don’t worry about future
Panel2 – Women’s work the great juggling art.
This is the most interesting Topic. Here is summary of the Prameela Thomas and Mamatha Benarjee ‘s own experiences.
You have Family, Parents, Kids work at same time. So prioritize tasks important/ urgent. Make choice based on priorities. Do urgent & important things. Spend time to each task. I give priority to family since if I do not have problems there I can deliver productive work. You need not be super women. If you are able to manage at home you are very well can manage in the office. Make relationships to work within your circle. Identify conflicts and think it from the other side. Focus on productivity. Know each ones strength & weaknesses. Never think of any layoffs or kicking off team members. Instead be straight motivate, get things done from the team. Waking up early is very important that saves lot of time and good for health, very good habit. Never Skip your breakfast. You focus on right things. Fame & Money follows you. Some of the Characteristics of Women are Lionist, Ferocious, Lamb, Gentle, Angel to many people. You are Wo- man. You are the wall.
Post Lunch Session – Turning every Adversity into an Advantage
If you are a very good achiever in career life and your kids are not doing good then you are failed. If your family needs your moral support, you can step back & take the time with family. If you are taking break do not sit idle. Be associated with activities and certifications. Try to add strength to yourself. Country needs good and talented resources. Never ever give up. You should love what you do. You got to be perfect in what you do. If you are unique and scalable people come to you. Network with people. You got to believe that you are the best. Really impressive success stories from women in different fields and how they turned adversity into advantage. So what everything happens in life is for our good. Life is so simple to make it happy. Go ahead.
Here we are asked to share the success stories and some of them are really inspiring how they turned them into their success. I have spoken on some of my experiences how do I manage my personal and professional life, my MVP success story and how I achieved it. I got a very good response for it and people have lot of passion for Community Leadership.
The last track was about women entrepreneurs, who are CEO’s and interested in entrepreneurship, wishing to start own entrepreneurs discussed on various opportunities and government support for entrepreneurs. There are 2 organizations ALEP & Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs (COWE), for the women entrepreneurs. Association Of
Lady Entrepreneurs Of Andhra Pradesh (ALEAP was heading by Mrs Ramadevi provides training & funding for lady entrepreneurs not necessarily showing collateral.
The overall its good experience and learning on leadership, entrepreneurship technology, networking with top management in various organizations. This summit provided a platform for like-minded women to learn, develop, connect, and network. This is a memorable Women’s Day event.

Live blogging from MVP OpenDay
I am blogging this in the discussion with Visual Studio Product Group. Good interactive disucssion on VS2010 feedback
I was all these days attending MVP Open Day at MS IDC happening in Jan 20th 2009 to Jan 23rd 2009.
What is an MVP?
MSIDC
Microsoft India Development Center (MSIDC) is one of Microsoft’s largest development centers outside the headquarters in Redmond. Set up in 1998 by Srini Koppolu, Corporate Vice-President & Managing Director, along with a group of 20 people, MSIDC has grown over the last 11 years to 1500 plus employees.
Microsoft India Development Center is a major player in Microsoft’s strategy of global shared development where teams across geographies collaborate effectively to build great software. Major components of flagship products such as Windows Vista and Windows 7 have been engineered here. Innovative work by MSIDC has led to the filing of more than 272 patents for Microsoft Corporation in the past five years.
MSIDC works on more than 20 focus areas around six key domains aligned to Microsoft lines of business. These domains are Data, Tools, Mobile, Windows®, Windows Live™ and Business Applications (Biz Apps).
The MVP Open Day is a three day invitation-only event that is hosted at MSIDC. The event will feature a roster of keynotes and deep dive technical sessions delivered by experts from the product group as well as a variety of social networking opportunities to enable MVPs to network and socialize with their technical peers, build new relationships with Microsoft Development Centre teams, and share real world feedback. This is a great opportunity for MVPs to connect with each other; with Microsoft Development Centre, and visiting Redmond Product Group as well as MVP team staff.
The MVP Open Day is an exclusive event for Asia Pacific & Greater China MVPs. MVPs from the 3 regions – Australia & New Zealand, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Southeast Asia will be attending the Meet in Hyderabad, India, from 20th Jan to 23rd Jan 2010.

MVP Hat-rick
This is the third year that I am getting MVP award continuously.
I thank Microsoft for recognizing me as Technology Leader and encouraging me to serve the community. Recently when I spoke in TCS I have taken an awareness session on MVP. People are thinking that MVP is a certification and I get a lot of mails saying that what is an MVP and how to become MVP?
What is an MVP?
MVPs are not the employers of MS. They may work independently or for a company or own a company .Their volunteer contribution towards technology is considered and in recognition to such contributions MicroSoft award each individuals.
This is a single year award. Once you get this award all the previous year contributions will not be counted for next MVP valuation.
Your profile and contributions will be monitored through out the year based on that next year ward will be renewed/retired. That means you got MVP and after getting MVP if you are not done any contributions such as maintaining User Group, speaking engagements, technical discussion etc, then your award will be retired for next year.
You need to influence the people and motivate them value of sharing knowledge for the community. Simple MOTTO - Share the knowledge in turn it will double for you.
MVP Myths:
1. MVP is a worldwide award given by MS and its not any certification from MS.
2. Your certifications might add value to the profile. But it’s not mandatory that you need to be a certified professional for getting MVP award.
3. Your experience is not a big criterion for MVP. Even a student who is able to explore the technical talents and serve the community technically can get it. He/She need to be above 18 years old.
Benefits:
As an MVP you will get world wide recognition proving your identity that you are one among all.
MSDN subscription for a year will be awarded apart from $150 for purchasing in e-Company store.
MVP academy courses , mvp private news groups, MVP open days, MVP monthly chat , MVP technical forums and MVP Global summit are the some of the events for the mvp community to grow technically.
Believe me becoming an MVP will add more value to you and enjoying all these benefits will definitely make you sky heights
A few years ago when there was no MVP program in India and neighboring countries at that time, we had to participate for years altogether to be invited as part of the MVP program. And even then, we did all the community work without expecting an MVP award. Knowledge, exposure, and recognition were a good enough award then. It took one of the senior MVP to three years of newsgroup participation to get an invite to the program and even that was unexpected.
We have increased in numbers hundredfold in South Asia now. I congratulate all new MVPs and renewed MVPs.
Eligibility
You don't need to write any certification for getting MVP; however it will always be added advantage having certification.
This is worth more than your MCSD, MCAD, MCTS or any other.
It's international recognition from Microsoft for your community contributions.
All those who have passion for the technology, can only become MVPs.
Anyone who has passion eligible for the award?
How can I be an MVP?
Simple answer is Do your best for the community. Leaders make more Leaders.
All the best for MVP grabbing MVP award!!! For the tech geeks and tech enthusiasts.

The Microsoft MVP Award is our way of saying thank you and to honor and support the significant contributions you make to communities worldwide. As a recipient of Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professional award, you join an elite group of technical community leaders from around the world who foster the free and objective exchange of knowledge by actively sharing your real world expertise with users and Microsoft. What is renewal?
The MVP award is valid for only one year based on your contributions on that year. It will be renewed based on your contributions on next year.
It is my pleasure being part of MVP the community. I hope I'll be able to contribute to the developer community even more over the next year .So looking forward to another superb year ahead especially with the excitement of ORCAS.

MVP Global Summit 2007
Last week I attended MVP global Summit 2007 at Seattle, Washington,
It has been a amazing experience meeting world wide mvps in Seattle.
I was so excited by watching Bill Gates on the stage and also to step into MS campus for the first time. An interesting fact is that I have met the people whom I admire (Kaplan, Sean, Scottgu, Nish, Veer)
and had a good time with some of the people whom I never thought that I would met them.
It helped me to build world wide technical contacts.
This is my first time flying to other country and some what excited for that.
I am little bit worried about the whether in Seattle. But it's a beautiful, cool place.
First day of the Summit started with registration. After that we had IT Expo. On 12th Night it self we have APAC Regional Dinner in West in Hotel. As I was staying in Westin with Anjana we have a lot of fun when practicing cultural event that is going to be presented in Regional meet.
And we have done an event on World Peace .I really Lovveeee it .We were singing Sanskrit Sloka's and also waving our Indian Flags. Though we haven't done much practice we performed it well. Anjana and I were wearing Indian traditional (saree) dress which attracted most of the other country’s people. We got compliments like princes dress etc which makes me proud to be an Indian. And the performance by Koreans was really amazing.
After the Dinner Abhi(our MVP Lead) told us to come to the Convention center much early as 13th Morning first Session is BillG's which all of us are eagerly waiting for it. So in order to bag a first seat we need to come early. As thought we went at 7:00 am we could only get a seat in 4th row. One of the impressive thing from Bill Speech is how MS plans about their products and achieves it . I too need to plan about everything from now to 10 years of my life.... LOL :) ...
After Bill's Key note I attended Sessions on WPF/E, ORCAS, LINQ, and Vista.
And Evening we have been taken to Musem of Flight and that was a nice place.
We had dinner there. This is the only day that wee got Indian food and it was good.
And the next 2 days the Sessions are in MS campus . The moment I entered in MS I got a feeling that its my family. I attended a Session on WPF/E by Scott Gu.After the Session we had a talk with him .I used to admire him a lot.. I asked him how do you manage your time by blogging so much technical content....? then he simled and said - "I don't sleep" .
On the same day I attened session on Ajax Architecture. and roamed MS Campus did some shopping with Umesh at MS Company store. We have product group dinners on this day.
On 15th I atteded Sessions on Iron Python in ASP.Net and VSTS.
MS is goiing to release the next version of dotnet frame work that is 3.5 with the code name 'ORCAS' that includes AJAX, WWF, WPF/E, dynamic controls. And Iron Python is one of the intresting thing that we can now able to code dotnet in Python and build dynamic controls. The power of MS technologies in the next 2 years going to emerge a lot.
I met David (Know him through CC) and Venky ( through Dotnetspider) as I know them only online till the meet.
I enjoyed the meet and gained technical knowledge
There are some funny things happened like crossing roads even there is a red signal ( as we do here in hyderabad) and also tending to walk on left side of the road...
The thing that I can't adjust is food. We hardly got Indian food there...
Finally I can say that this is a wonderful experience... .
Can't wait till the next Summit.... Waiting for the Indian Summit....
Thanks for MS for invitation and the organizing the event.
I speacially thank our MVP lead Abhishek and also the Alliance IT for whichI am working for sponsoring the event.
