MUGH February UG Meet

We had UG meet yesterday and 20 turned up out of 58 registrations. As the capacity of the training room is 16, we are happy about the number. Though its working day and announced just before one day, it’s good that you people turned and I am the event organizer who made it happened.

I hope all of you have enjoyed the other side of the indexes session, how to provide simple solutions to ancient problems. I can say it as smart solutions to complex problems. Even I learned how effectively we can apply indexes and optimize query performance.

Select * or Select columns which one faster?

UG Meet action Items:
Blog about what you learned so that others who missed can know about it.
Share the knowledge; it will in turn help you to grow by your self.
When I started blogging, at that time, less writers more readers, now we have more readers and more writers. Be active in the community.
We decided to have UG meet bimonthly.

Thanks to Pinal, the Speaker, though he is busy when I asked him for the Sql Session, he made it happended, Harish Ranganthan for his time for arranging the venue.

I hope you enjoyed my recent series of articles on VS2010. Visual Studio team liked them and I got excellent feedback for these articles. Thanks for all of your support and taking time to read them. Now they are featured on MSDN blog.

This makes me happier and contributes more for the community.

TED comes To Hyderabad this year -3 Days to Go

Have you been to ISB Gachi-bowli any time?
Time to get exciTED about the much awaiTED event of the year TEDxHitechCity 31st Jan’10 at ISB Hyderabad.

TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, howcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future.” The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono. TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In 2001, Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation acquired TED from its founder,Richard Saul Wurman. In recent years, TED has expanded to include an
international conference, TEDGlobal; media initiatives, including TED Talks and TED.com; and the TED Prize. TED2010, “What the world Needs Now,” will be held Springs, California. TEDGlobal 2009, “The Substance of Things Not Seen,” was held July 21-24, 2009, in Oxford, UK and TEDIndia was held in November 2009.

Migration from MSN to Google Groups

Initially we used to have this in MSN Groups. But when MSN groups are closed and we migrated from MSN to Google groups. Lots of debates are going on why Microsoft UG using Google groups and all. I don’t want to argue on that. My intention is to alive the community, grow technically and update the technology. After moving to MSN we lost lot of users. Now we have only 400+ members as opposed to previous 4000+ members.

In my recent talk with some of the members, friends and colleagues I came to know that most of the people don’t know that MUGH has migrated to Google Groups.
Let’s again connect to community.
Please join the group for tech related events, meets, updates, announcements and solutions to problems.

We made some adjustments in the training room to accommodate all the techies. We cannot send the people back who travelled from long places.

Abstract: Hints are a powerful mechanism to force SQL Server to use alternate query plans. More often than not, the query optimizer does a fantastic job in creating the most optimized query plan for data access, but there may be numerous occasions when you would like to use alternate query plans to boost performance. Hints can help you do that. But beware; Hints if not used correctly may adversely affect performance so it should be used with care. In this session, Amit will first alert the DBAs on using Hints as they need to be sure that there is indeed a problem with the query plan. Then he will show you different types of Hints including Query & Table Hints. The session will be packed with demonstrations. Various concepts on SQL Server query processing architecture will also be explained wherever relevant to ensure that you extract maximum from the session.

Reviving the MUGH

People are saying Microsoft User Group Hyderabad (MUGH) is not active from so many days with out conducting any UG meetings or any events.

When the MUGH has invented, CORE (we) are developers /senior developers, bachelors so we used to concentrate on UG meets and conduct events in spare time.
As the days passed now Core team is so busy as almost all of them are Managers and with their family, kids.
Harsh and Myself were discussing about this last Friday when I went to MS campus to present my session on –“A Web Developer’s Journey across different versions of the ASP.NET" at VTD.
We thought of reviving MUGH, how much busy we are, still we can spend some time to our community.
Where there is a will there is away, soon I will be posting an event that is hosted by MUGH core team. Keep visiting my blog or subscribe to it

Hyderabad MVP meet @ MS Campus

We met at Hyderabad on 24th evening at MS campus of Feb and we have gathered once again to lighten the community. It was a meet after long time. We have discussed about complete reformation of MUGH and the CORE team. What are the activities to be conducted? Came up with several action items like redesigning MUGH portal and planning to conduct an event to renovate MUGH. As MSN groups are closed, we are moving to Google groups that are the reason for completely reforming MUGH. So be prepared to attend a BIG BANG event in the month of March or April.
